Donations

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Palliative Care Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital.

My mum loved flowers and told me that she wanted lots at her funeral and we have made sure that this is going to happen thanks for her loving friends at MADD - Jane, Sherri and Robert.

Neurosurgeons say that blister is showing that shunt is not placed correctly and they will have to go back in and re-align the tubing. WTF

January 4, 2012
Got up and moved around for the first time since December 21st with the help of the physiotherapist.

January 3, 2012

A blister appears at the nape of Mum's neck.

January 2, 2012

Moved from Neurosurgery Critical Care Unit (where she's been since December 21) to 5B ward.

January 1, 2012

Change of plans. Neurosurgeons decide to internalize the cranial catheder with a VP Shunt (ventriculoperitoneal Shunt). Typically they don't do this with patients who have Bacterial Meningitis but Mum's had seemed to clear and there was a window of opportunity.

December 21
Results from Lumbar Puncture confirmed to be bacterial meningitis. Neurosurgery called and confirmed that a catheder needed to be inserted into her brain to relieve spinal fluid pressure. The surgery was scheduled at 9 PM.

December 20
Lumbar Puncture procedure to determine if they need to insert a shunt.

December 18
Back to TWH Emergency for CSF Leak. Re-sutured and admitted for observation.

December 14

TWH Emergency for severe headache. Discharged that evening.

December 12

Follow up meeting with Dr. Bernstein (Neurosurgeon) at TWH

TWH Emergency for Cranial Spinal Fluid Leak

Mum was admitted and they re-stitched the incision site and observed her over the weekend.

Craniotomy performed by Dr. Berstein

November 23

MRI tests completed

Filter inserted in mum's heart to avoid any blood clots from breaking off.

November 22

TGH Emergency via ambulance for severe side effects to Chemo Drugs. CT Scan showed a tumour in the Cerebellum area to the brain which had begun to bleed. Required transfer to TWH Critical Care Neurosurgery Ward

November 18

Started Taking Sutent Chemotherapy pills along with Fragmin blood thinners for the DVT

November 17

Follow up meeting with Dr. Finelli and Dr. Knox to discuss outcomes from recent surgery and discuss start dates for Sutent.

Discovered mum had a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in her upper left leg which will require a blood thinner medication

Radical Nephrectomy Operation by Dr. Filleni

September 26

First meeting with Dr. Finelli (Urologist) at PMH - full diagnosis of cancer stage confirmed

Mum told me she had cancer.
